Hilton Commits to University of West Georgia
Lincoln Trail College proudly announces that sophomore infielder Kevin Hilton has officially committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at the University of West Georgia. Hilton will graduate this May and take the next step toward fulfilling a lifelong dream—playing baseball at the Division I level.
"It means a lot," Hilton said. "It's always been a dream to play at the Division I level. Without Coach Maynard or LT, my dreams would've come up short. Coach Maynard played a huge role."
During his time at LTC, Hilton compiled impressive stats over his career, boasting a .310 batting average, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 41 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. Beyond the numbers, Hilton's growth as a player and leader has impacted the Statesmen program.
"When I first stepped foot on campus, I knew it would be a grind," Hilton reflected. "I knew I was going to have to earn my spot, and I was ready for that challenge. Coach Maynard saw my potential and would push me. I feel I grew the most in my strength and my fielding."
Lincoln Trail Head Coach Collin Maynard praised Hilton's evolution over the past two seasons.
"Kevin has grown exponentially during his time at LTC," said Maynard. "His bat-to-ball skills are second to none, he's an automatic defender with the ability to play both shortstop and second base, and his high IQ allows him to take advantage of countless situations on the diamond. I believe that Kevin will be a perfect fit for the University of West Georgia. His dedication on and off the field will set him up for immediate success."
Hilton credits a defining moment halfway through his freshman year as the time he knew he could compete at the next level.
"Coach Maynard was always there for me, making me a better player day in and day out," Hilton said.
Coach Maynard also highlighted Hilton's leadership qualities and influence in the locker room. "Kevin has the intangible ability to positively influence all of his teammates. He is a calming presence on the field and has been a phenomenal role model for our other infielders with his work ethic and attitude."
Looking ahead, Hilton is eager to join the Wolves at West Georgia. "On the diamond, I'm excited to compete at the Division I level and continue my dream of playing baseball. In the classroom, I'm most excited to learn more about my future."
Coach Maynard has no doubt Hilton is ready. "Kevin's experience at LTC has prepared him to step into the Division I level and make an immediate impact. He's played with and against numerous D1-caliber players and has always stepped up to the challenge."
Hilton's advice to upcoming Statesmen is "Be ready to work. No matter what the coaches have planned for that day. make sure you are ready to work. They will push you and they will make you earn everything."
The entire Lincoln Trail College community congratulates Statesman Kevin Hilton on his commitment and looks forward to watching his continued success at the University of West Georgia.
